August 2014 - Three types of new sensor head released. NEW

October 2013 - New models add an Ethernet-compatible controller to the HL-C2 series of ultra high-speed, high-precision laser displacement sensors.

Devices can be connected easily to the MELSEC series of sequencers from Mitsubishi Electric, which feature Ethernet connectivity, as well as our FP series of programmable controllers, without any programming required.

These sensors achieve an excellent level of performance in the three basic functions which are required of reflective type laser displacement sensors. They can provide "Surplus", "Reliability" and "Confidence" to production sites which demand high speeds and high precision.

HDLC-CMOS sensors

The HDLC-CMOS sensors have been developed specially for the HL-C2 series. High density light-receiving cells and a processing speed which is close to maximum limits result in high resolutions and high speeds which exceed all expectations for laser displacement sensors.

High-resolution lens

High-resolution lens has been newly designed to perfectly suit HDLC-CMOS sensors. The light-receiving part can create images at a minimum point from light received from a variety of different angles to produce images with even greater precision.

Exclusive optical equipment and diaphragm structure sustain laser beam of high quality at a radiant density that is close to ideal in the Gaussian distribution. Emission intensity adjustment function, using the newest algorithm, is able to follow any deviation of the light receiving intensity instantaneously maintaining the best emitting condition at all times.

Tilt tolerance has increased to 1.5 times the previous model; therefore, further detection is possible even when there is a fluctuation in the position of the object.

The volume ratio has reduced by 23% (from previous model) producing a compact sensor head to enable installation space down to the minimum.

■ Compatible with diffuse reflective and specular reflective
Selecting a suitable sensor may be difficult depending on the surface of the object. Even under such conditions, with just one sensor head setup mode can be selected while assuring stable sensing operation.
(HL-C201F□ is compatible with specular reflective only)

Controller

■ 2 sensor heads connection
Calculation of each measurement value within the controller is possible.

■ Functionally-rich I/O
Connection to a variety of devices enables the stored data in the devices to be displayed and analyzed while controlling the sensor at the same time.

■ Data buffering function
Using this function, about 65,000 pieces of measurement value data can be temporarily stored. All of these stored data can be utilized for comparison or analysis by loading them into computers.

Please install the free software tool Panel Display Data on HL-C2 on " Programmable Display (GT12) " in order to customize the console, which allows for monitoring waveform and setting configuration.

■Light receiving intensity in waveform display
Light receiving intensity is displayed by the cell unit of the light receiving element. Cell position of the maximum simultaneous light receiving intensity displayed by numerical values helps to make adjustment involved in the setup of the sensor head easy.

Data stored in the controller by data buffering function can be loaded, and then waveform and data are displayed.
Furthermore, procedures on how to store data, storage period, and storage amount can be set by the display.

[Advantages of the HL-C21C(-P)]
1. Measurement status can be acquired with a programmable controller easily and without any need for programming!

The HL-C21C supports the MEWTOCOL (used by our FP series) and MC protocols (used by Mitsubishi Electric’s MELSEC-Q and MELSEC-L series) as well as the iQSS dedicated protocol (used by Mitsubishi Electric’s MELSEC-L series), allowing measured values and other information to be written automatically to the data registers of programmable controllers without any need for programming.
*iQSS is an abbreviation for Mitsubishi Electric’s iQ Sensor Solution.

No longer need to create any ladder program, which was necessary in the past in order to acquire measured values over a conventional RS-232C connection.

2. Reducing cost with multiple device connections!

In the past, a control unit or communications unit with RS-232C communications ports was needed in order to connect a conventional HL-C2 series device to a programmable controller. In particular, connecting multiple devices required enough communications units to accommodate the desired number of connections. Consequently, such use imposed penalties in the form of communications unit costs, space, and connection man-hours for each unit to be connected, as well as programming man-hours.

Since the HL-C21C supports Ethernet connectivity, you do not need to have a communications unit for each device being connected (as in the past) if you’re using a programmable controller with an Ethernet communications port. In such applications, you can easily connect multiple HL-C21C units, and you can easily use measured values acquired from multiple HL-C21C units to implement calculation-based device control. Compared to RS-232C connections, this approach to using multiple devices does not impose penalties in terms of communications unit costs or space, and it can also lower connection man-hours since only wiring to the Ethernet communications port is needed to complete the connection.

Connection with a MELSEC-L Series Mitsubishi Electric Unit with iQSS Support

The HL-C21C supports Mitsubishi Electric’s iQ Sensor Solution (iQSS, the general name used for a sensor solution promoted by Mitsubishi Electric).
Configuration of communications connection settings, monitoring of sensors, and reading and writing of sensor parameters can be accomplished easily without programming, allowing development man-hours during deployment to be reduced. Additionally, the system can be up and running faster.

Mitsubishi Electric’s GX Works 2 sequencer engineering software (Ver. 1.492N or later) can be used to directly configure and monitor the HL-C21C.
(1) The software can search for and check HL-C21C connection information.
(2) The software can read and write HL-C21C sensor parameters.
(3) The software can monitor data written from the HL-C21C to a sequencer.

The Control Configurator WD IP address search tool is a software utility that can search for Panasonic Industrial Devices SUNX products on the same network and display a list of their IP addresses, versions, and other information. Other capabilities include changing IP addresses, updating some models’ firmware, and configuring communications, among other things.
